Fostex 207e plotted with WinISD

Here are sims from WinISD for the Fostex 207e, 168S (old style with wizzer) and 165k.

I love the 168S and my favorite cabinet for it is the big bass reflex:

I was thinking about building another big bass reflex after hearing an old design using Diatone drivers http://www15.ocn.ne.jp/~slife/photo/a8.JPG bass was big and bouncy and the box was simple to build. I decided to try the 207e (blue line) in the same 46 liter box and it sims very close to the 168s (green line), maybe even better! The 165k dips too much and will sound thin in even a large bass reflex. The 165k requires a back horn of some kind to make the most of it - BIBs work amazingly well with this driver.

I am considering building a 46L box and mounting the 168S in it but also building a removable front baffle to try the 207e and see if the sound of the larger driver produces a fuller sound even tho the chart suggests they will sound similar. As we all have learned, the charts only provide insight into how the speakers will sound... not how they actually do sound.

I'm curious to hear these 8" full rangers! I would add a super tweeter to fill in the treble and a sub to fill out the bass. This should be a very nice sounding system with very good efficiency.

I would build an 17L cabinet tuned to 63Hz. A simple 2" x 2" port does the trick. Play with stuffing to tune to taste.
