8 Inch Subwoofer Project About My Straight Pipes with Fostex 127e are great speakers! They have a natural midrange and sound balanced if a little forward. They are in my office flanking my bookcase and really don’t take up much room at all. But they lack bass. I bought another subwoofer amp: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-784 part number 300-784 from partsexpress.com. This amp looks good but when I shake it it makes noise like something's wobbling inside. Otherwise it's a lovely looking piece of gear and subjectively much more powerful than the $25 twenty five watt amp they also sell.... which I would not buy again. I also found an old
Precision woofer also from about I sanded the real wood veneer to a smooth finish and filled the deep scratches with dark wood putty and sanded again. Using dark Ebony stain from Minwax really deepened the color making it very difficult to see the repaired scratches. Three coats of hand rubbed poly shined these up beautifully and the results are just incredible! I found a few pieces of discarded birch ply along side a new floral shop that was opening down the block. The wood said ‘no good’ in pencil on it so I knew it was scrap. Since it’s polite to ask I went to knock on the door only to find two people making out behind what seemed to be a new birch ply countertop. Leaving them to do their thing… I took the wood. After cutting the hole I sanded and stained the front baffle with Red Oak Minwax stain. The same stains were also used on the Straight Pipes to keep a family resemblance of sorts. The old woofer, old cabinet
and new sub amp all work perfectly together and add the right amount
of bass to an already very nice speaker system. Still not super low
bass but satisfying. Tuning to taste and running off the Sonic
Impact amp thru my Godzilla
