Four Great 'Full Range' Drivers!

Fostex 167e and Fostex 127e represent great bargains for simple 'full range' driver sound! Just put them into simple ported boxes and you have excellent speakers that can be used successfully with low powered tube amps or even the very inexpensive Sonic Impact amp.

Two additional drivers that I feel are also interesting options are the Pioneer B20 8" full range driver for around $25 and the Tang Band 4" Bamboo for around $40 each.

These are 'Max Flat' results from WinISD. Subjectively, the Pioneer B20 has the fullest bass probably due to its larger diameter... but also its response doesn't rise like the others. A tweeter should be used with the Pioneer B20 to extend the high frequencies past approximately 10k. The other drivers do not require a tweeter IMO. To me both Fostex drivers sound similar (fast and forward). The B20 (fuzzy and lively) and TB Bamboo (clear and a little dull) are more relaxed sounding. Subjectively both Fostex and Pioneer are about the same efficiency. The TB is less efficient but all can be used successfully with the low powered Sonic Impact amp in medium and small sized rooms. My room is 17' x 14' with 11' high ceilings.

Note: Pioneer B20 is in a sealed box. The others are in ported boxes.
